Chardonel Grapes When New York’s grape experts at Geneva release patented Chardonel as a new grape for “superior quality wine,” it’s a recommendation you can take to the bank! Chardonel is a cross between Seyval and the famous Chardonnay and was tested for more than 20 years. Proven for high yields and cold hardiness superior to Chardonnay. The Chardonel has medium-size, amber berries ripen early October. (PP7860) Zones 5-8 Grapes are self-pollinating except St. Pepin which needs LaCrosse for proper pollination. Plant 8’ x 8’ apart.
